Additional resources

There are a wide range of other materials and resources that you might find useful when developing your own scenarios exercises; a small sample is set out below:

  • The original Mont Fleur scenarios
This famous scenario planning process was undertaken as part of the democratisation process in South Africa in the early 1990s. This article explains how the scenarios were created, the form they took and the way they were communicated.
  • Leadership Foundation for Higher Education scenarios report
The 2010 Leadership Foundation report Higher Education Futures: Key themes and implications for leadership and management analyses scenario and higher education literature from the recent past, including studies from the OECD and UUK. The analysis highlights six major themes that the scenario literature point towards for higher education and which may present challenges and opportunities for higher education leaders, managers and governors.
Idenk Ltd has assisted UUK with the Scenarios project and their website contains more tips and other ideas on generating insights about the future and the implications for your organisation.

Other resources you may also find of use in your work:

  • Universities UK blog: This blog offers regular pieces of analysis from UUK staff drawing on a wide range of data of interest to universities and the wider higher education sector.
  • The distinct project: The distinct project is a HEFCE funded project under the Leading Transformation Change strand of the Leadership, Governance and Management (LGM) Fund. It aims to capture and disseminate successful practices and experiences for leading organisational change within the HE sector.
