With regard to quality assurance, universities engage with employers in a wide range of ways. For example:
- obtaining feedback eg. through industrial liason groups or employer surveys
-
- particularly close engagement in the design and delivery of particular courses, especially Foundation Degrees
- appointing employers or practitioners to help with assessment, including as external examiners

In addition, the QAA work with employers, concentrating on the quality assurance of work-related learning, but also working with professional, statutory and regulatory bodies on a joint forum to rationalise demands on higher education.
Overall, over 80% of employers surveyed by the CBI said they were ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ with the employability skills of the graduates they had recruited in the last 12 months.
On a similar note the education and skills survey conducted by the CBI in November 2008 reported widespread confidence among students, who believe that they understand and are developing employability skills whilst at university.
