The University of Salford has managed to use the matched funding
scheme to lever a major gift recently from an anonymous donor.
The donor initially pledged £50,000. However, when advised that the University could use the match to make a bigger impact, the donor agreed to increase the gift to £78,000. Combined with the match, this will enable the University to secure a teaching post for a three year period and introduce new student and staff support mechanisms.
The scheme has also been used as an incentive to entice alumni into making a donation during the annual fund telephone campaigns.
Since introducing information about the matched funding scheme in their campaigns last October, the University has seen pledge rates increase from 19% to 28%.
